After obtaining his Masters degree in Chemistry from
the University of Groningen with Profs. R. Kaptein and
H.J.C Berendsen, Dr. Vuister was awarded in 1988 the DSM
Prize for Chemistry and Technology. He pursued his academic
career at the University of Utrecht with Profs. R. Kaptein
and R. Boelens and obtained his Doctorate degree
cum
laude in 1991 on “Homonuclear Three-Dimensional
NMR Spectroscopy of Biomolecules”. In 1991 he
received an NWO research stipend and from 1991 until 1994
he went for a postdoctoral position to the Laboratory of
Chemical Physics of the National Institute of Diabetes,
Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the National Institutes of
Health in Bethesda, MD, USA working under the supervision
